Top 5. Bikini & Beachwear Brands For Eco-Friendly Materials

Lilliput & Felix

‘Paeonia’ Curve Bikini Top & Bottoms in ‘Midnight’

Based in London and Singapore, Lilliput & Felix is a luxury swim and beachwear brand that has been awarded the Butterfly Mark by Positive Luxury for their commitment to social and environmental sustainability in garment production. All items must be pre-ordered, cutting out the waste incurred by mass production. Their fabrics are made in small mills in Italy and France.

Picked for:  Their exclusive pre-order system, fabric quality, and commitment to using ‘multi-tie’ shapes, ensuring their designs are flattering to many female figures.

Perfect for: Romantic, feminine, & perfectly structured feel – luxury resort wear or just simply to treat yourself and feel extra sensual on the beach.

Under Protection

Under Protection are a Danish brand based in Copenhagen, whose motto is ‘Ethics & Aesthetics’. They offer both comfortable & relaxed designs for swimwear made from recycled polyester as well as ethically made lingerie and accessories. Under Protection made my Top 16. Ethical Fashion & Beauty Brands to trust list as a company I have loved and watched develop over many years.

Picked for: Their eco-friendly recycled materials & commitment to transparent, ethical production practices. Under Protection’s new swimwear range carries a description of the small factory in New Delhi where their garments are made, which is certified by the Fair Wear Foundation.

Perfect for: Affordable, ethical bikinis & swimsuits with quirky designs.

Reversible TANAMI Wrapsuit

So I’ve been obsessed with Australian ethical swimwear brand Baiia ever since I saw the above picture of their upcoming Reversible TANAMI Wrapsuit, made from the finest Italian recycled fabric and dyed using water-based inks. Baiia’s swimwear fabric is made from post-consumer waste such as fishnets, carpets, plastic bottles and textiles. You can read more about their comprehensive Sustainability & Values business philosophy here.

Picked for: Recycled fabrics, water-based inks, charitable donations for each product sold & transparent production practices.

Perfect for: Versatility. All of their bikinis & swimsuits are reversible with contrasting designs on the other side, so you basically get two for the price of one!

Elle Evans

These Aussies want to clean up our oceans! Go them. Elle Evans is an Australian sustainable swimwear brand based in Melbourne whose garments are made from Econyl –  a fabric created from waste dredged from the sea. The fabric is then printed using water-based, non-toxic inks, and the entire production is done in house by Elle Evans herself and one other seamstress.

Picked for:  Their use of Econyl to turn regenerated consumer waste found in our oceans into vegan- & eco-friendly swimwear. Many of their designs are also reversible, giving you more ‘bang for your buck’ as they would say (I think?!) in Australia.

Perfect for: Bright, buoyant & fun swimwear designs. Elle Evans also do Activewear.

Buttress & Snatch

Mermaid Scallop Shell Bikini Top – £92

And so we return to England – London, more specifically. With their Mermaid Scallop Shell Bikini top & Kylie Minogue gold lamé-style set, Buttress & Snatch have more than a touch of fantasy about them. Based in an old Turkish Delight factory in Hackney, North London, Buttress & Snatch handcraft some of the sexiest lingerie & swimwear I have ever seen. All orders are custom made & they buy all their materials from UK suppliers.

Picked for:  Their commitment to the slow fashion movement & British manufacturing.

Perfect for:  Being extremely sexy & flirty with quirky, enchanting designs for full-on fantasy. Mermaid, anyone?
